Collection Update: Canterlot & Playset Ponies

This is a continuation of my last post as I try to catch up with all of the ponies in my collection.

Rarity's Carousel Boutique came with a walking pose Rarity and a bonus pony Sweetie Swirl

There was also a set called Fun at the Fair that introduced Applebloom and a reissued Sweetie Belle.

The Canterlot line of pony toys was a Target Exclusive and Starbeam Twinkle came as a bonus pony with a cardboard castle.

And I finally got a Princess Luna

And I can't forget the Fashion Style Fluttershy I got for christmas

And that makes me mostly caught up. Wave 4 will get it's own post later this week.

Collection Update: Waves 1-3

I just noticed how very far behind I am on covering the ponies in my herd. So I think it's time to do a little recap.

To date I own:

Wave 1 These ponies are called the "mane" six. Sweetie is a more minor character.
Twilight Sparkle
Rarity
Fluttershy
Rainbow Dash
Applejack
Pinkie Pie

Sweetie Belle

And the best pony of the "mane" 6 is...

Wave 2 This wave was rather small and had a lot of distribution problems
Cheerilee
Lily Blossom

And Lily Blossom is pretty unique as in the US she is the only pony that was released that did not get box art that was a recolor of one of the "mane" six.

Wave 3
Blossomforth
Cupcake/
Dewdrop Dazzle
Lulu Luck

My favorite pony from this set is Dewdrop Dazzle. I guess I'm a sucker for blue ponies.

More ponies coming later this week.

Birthday Ponies Part 2

My friend Molly over at Molly-olly-oxen-free! Drew me a wonderful fluttershy for my birthday! Go check her out as she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. And her brother is a brony too.

Now time to go open some more blind bag ponies!

Birthday Ponies Part 1

It's my birthday Thursday and no birthday of mine is complete without some ponies!

My super awesome pony tolerating fiance bought me a Blossomforth as mine seems to have disappeared somewhere. (I know I had two, so where did it go?)

And my fabulous co-worker spotted some blind bag ponies in walmart remembered my birthday was coming up and grabbed me a few.

I even ordered myself a new pony shirt to celebrate the awesomeness of me getting a bit older than I would like to admit.

Thursday I open all of my blind bag ponies!

PS did you notice I updated the banner?

Jayson Thiessen at AOD

Guess who met Jayson Thiessen this weekend at Animation on Display in San Francisco?

Recapping an entire two-day convention would be a bit of a challenge, so I'll just point out some interesting things.

1. Jayson confirmed the baby on the ceiling to be a Trainspotting reference.
2. Intro to bronies panel will inevitably have essentially no new bronies. Generally, you are better off doing a fan panel.
3. One mention of Smile Smile Smile and it will be stuck in your head for days.
4. The episodes are not built around the lesson/letter and the entire process is much more organic than I believed.

And lastly....

I know a couple of people asked him to autograph multiple things (he claimed he was getting very good at signing tiny ponies) but I rally didn't want to be greedy so I just asked him to sign my Derpy ATC art.

Sorry for the slower updates. I've just been a bit busy but things should be getting back to normal soon. Some things to look forward to are new toys, a new spring banner, and my birthday!

Fanfiction Friday!

I was talking with another pony fan the other day when I mentioned I did not read much pony fanfiction. Of course later this week I opened google docs and noticed just how many fanfics I have read. I guess those small amounts really add up over time.

Rainbow Secret by *Don-KomandoRR on deviantART

A Terrible Secret by Sword of Squirrels was one of the first fanfics that I came across and really connected with. The premise, as suggested by the above image is that Rainbow Dash's main isn't quite what it appears to be.

I know this one is a bit of an older fic, but if you haven't read it yet I would very much recommend checking it out.

Hearts And Hooves Day

Happy Hearts and Hooves Day Everypony!

This blog post is dedicated to a little girl named Lucy who loves the new My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic show. Her mom contacted me through a art website and asked if I could draw some ponies for her daughter by Valentines Day.

Her favorite ponies are Rainbow Dash

I wish this one was a little better. I am still learning to work with the ink and something just feels "off" though I can't quite place it.

Lucy also likes Princess Celestia

I know most adults are iffy about glitter on ATC cards, but I couldn't resist giving the princess some extra sparkly hair.

In exchange for my art Lucy's mom sent me some cards with Pinkie Pie and Rainbow dash.

They also included a coloring picture of Fluttershy (my favorite) and Lucy also drew me a super pretty Princess Celestia!

PS: 5996 pageviews and 58 posts!

Fashion Style Fluttershy

Fashion Style Fluttershy was a gift from my mom for Christmas and I took her photograph in the light tent that was my birthday gift from Ben. I think I need to get stronger lights for the sides though, as flipping my lamp on the side wasn't really cutting it. I do think it makes a big difference in picture quality though so I'll keep trying to figure it out. I've never been one to "pose" my toys with little teacups or anything, but I really want to grab little trees and fake flowers and such for the ponies!

Blind Bags

It's been a bit quiet from me this week as I have had some big projects due at work. But now it's the weekend and I can update the blog.

I was lucky enough to find a handful of blind bag ponies yesterday while I was out and about with the other NorCal bronies for a brony meet up. The blind bags are becoming a little easier to find, but as the stores are only getting one box at a time actually finding any is pretty good, so this is a rather large post.

As you can see the size of the bags is a little misleading when it comes to the size of the actual pony figure.

Inside each bag is a trading card with a picture of the pony on the front and a little profile of the pony on the back. Also included is a pamphlet that shows all of the ponies in this blind bag set. They still only take up about half the size of the bag though, so I just don't see why the packaging is as large as it is.

The cashier was kind enough to let me keep the box and I noticed on the ride home that the box has an image on it from season two of the television series. I would hope that these weren't delayed as long as they were for something like packaging art. Of course it's possible that I am misremembering, but I'm pretty sure we didn't see any unicorn statues until season two.

Speaking of oddities, Gabumon at the MLPArena noticed that there is actually a coverup label on every. single. pamphlet and box. I've pulled the sticker off so you can see the original text beneath the coverup. Originally the text over the silhouetted ponies said "special edition ponies!" which was later changed to "3 other figures available (not shown)". The only explanation we have come up with thus far is that they are avoiding the term "special edition" as there are one of each pony in the box so no one pony is more rare than the others.

It also looks like Target is planning on getting the blind bag figures, though they didn't have any in stock when I was there. I took the product I bought at Toys R Us and ran it through the scanner to see if it would pick anything up.

Sadly, it looks like Target would not be the best place to shop for blind bags as they are $1.99 at Toys R Us and $1.96 at Walmart. Hopefully Target will revise their prices by the time the stock comes in.
