Blind Bag Wave 6 Day 7: Magnet Bolt

Today we have one attractive pony!

Magnet Bolt # 20 – attracts a lot of attention wherever she goes.

"Attractive" get it? I feel like I am listening to old pokemon jokes or something here and I know it's cheesy but I actually love the pony puns people come up with. Also the red and blue magnet colors are just really cute on a pony.

Blind Bag Wave 6 Day 6 - Berry Green

Ahhhhhhhh! More pinkish purple (or would it be purplish pink) ponies.

Berry Green # 12 – has lots of friends she can always count on.

Berry green has some unfortunate coloring. Seriously Hasbro, why can't I get a cute green pony? Her name has green in it! She should be green!

Blind Bag Wave 6 Day 5 - Cherry Spices

Another unicorn today!

Cherry Spices # 14 – Loves to bake and make up yummy recipes.

Cherry spices is a repeat pony from the first wave of blind bags but she has switched from the Rarity mold to the Twilight Sparkle mold seen here. I personally prefer this version. I am really hoping we get to see a brushable size or a cameo of her in the background as I really love her colors.

Blind Bag Wave 6 Day 4 - Twilight Velvet

Twilight Velvet # 10 – loves writing stories about adventure.

Hooray! Today is a special edition pony. It may be difficult to tell in the photo but Twilight Velvet has a 3Dish star in her cutie mark. I admit that I light the "sparkly clear" version better, this reminds me of G1 Glory.

See, I'm not making it up!
Now I kind of wish I had a second one so I could customize it!

Error Pony: Cheerilee

Quite a while back I won another error pony on ebay. I got it in the mail and put it.... somewhere before I could take photos. Just a few days ago I happened to find it (of all the places sitting on a shelf will all of the other ponies).

This Cheerilee is not terribly different from her standard counterpart with the exception that she is factory sealed with a blue tail.

I also noticed that her purple plastic color was significantly different from the Cheerilee set that comes with the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

Error Pony: Andromeda

Another factory error/prototype/hybrid pony has arrived from China. This pony is a mix of Lyra's coloration (minus the eyes) and Sunny Rays symbol.

The hardest thing about these error ponies is naming them. The minty green and the sun symbol gave me trouble at first but I thought since there are three stars a constellation name might be pretty and Andromeda was born!

Here is a side by side comparison of Andromeda and Lyra. You can see the body and hair are the same, but the eyes and symbols are different.

Daisy Dreams

Daisy Dreams is one of those ponies that has an odd release story. This version is a Toys R Us Exclusive packaged with Rarity and two scooters (so they can charge you more). Daisy Dreams has also been available as a Glimmer Wing pony. But before this release she was in international exclusive packaged with Fluttershy (no scooter). The US version actually has the symbol on the opposite side compared to the international version.

I waffled about getting the set for a while because I was hoping to offset the price by purchasing it during a BOGO sale at Toys R Us. However, she seemed to sell out rather quickly and I grabbed the last one available. Oddly enough Daisy Dreams seems to have been attacked by a random vampire during the night as she came with two weird pricks on her neck.

Wedding Pony Wave 2 : Complete

Here is the complete set of the Wedding Pony Wave Two ponies!
I think this has been overall one of my favorite waves as this set is quite colorful compared to some of the others and it's really nice to see some bolder color choices. I hope this is a trend that continues into the future, but considering we've not seen any leaked ponies in a while we shall have to wait and see.

How about you, dear readers? Do you have a favorite pony from the set? Any surprises? Did you find the toys online or in the store?

Wedding Ponies Wave 2: Trixie Lulamoon

Trixie Lulamoon, The Great and Powerful Trixie, or just Trixie is the fourth and final pony in the second wave of the Pony Wedding toy set. Another favorite pony among fans it was necessary for me to order her online as I've not been able to find her in the store.Unfortunately mine came with some dents from the packaging, though I imagine they will go away with time.

Here is a comparison of the Pony Wedding Trixie with the Favorites Collection Trixie. They look exactly the same apart from the glitter cutie mark, but the Pony Wedding Trixie is marked with a code on the bottom of her hoof while the Favorites Collection Trixie is not.

Wedding Ponies Wave 2: Sunny Rays

Sunny Rays is the third pony in the second wave of Pony Wedding toys. Yellow ponies in general seem to be well received and with the striking yellow and purple coloring Sunny Rays is a welcome addition to the lineup. Sunny Rays is also one of just a few ponies to have different vector art from the "recolored" standard art of the "mane" six. Hopefully this will show the beginning of more overlap between the cartoon's background characters and the physical toys.

Wedding Ponies Wave 2: Lyra Heartstrings

Lyra Heartstrings is another pony in the second set of Pony Wedding toys. Fans typically just call her Lyra. While I generally prefer to "hunt" for ponies in my local stores, I had to order Lyra from the Hasbro toyshop because she is never in the store. I think she may just be my favorite normal-sized G4 pony because her colors are so lovely!

Wedding Ponies Wave 2: Cherry Berry

Cherry Berry is the first pony (alphabetically) in the second wave of ponies in the Pony Wedding set.
Her color scheme reminds me of a G1 pony named Shady. I like the pink/yellow combination as her hair really pops. The name is cute and matches her symbol and is believable as a pony name.

Traveling Ponies - Cherry Pie and Diamond Rose

I feel bad for Hasbro toy marketing some times. On one hand you have an enormously popular TV series with distinct, lovable, very marketable characters. Obviously you want these toys to be available in the stores at all times because well, wouldn't you be upset if you were a little kid that loved Fluttershy, but you couldn't buy one because she was released 2 years ago? On the other hand collectors and many bronies already have the "mane" six and it is frustrating to not see a variety of new ponies.  It seems like the rule of thumb is to have one wave with the six "mane" ponies and two new ponies followed by several waves of a mix of "mane" six and new ponies.

The Traveling Ponies set (they come with a suitcase/luggage, and paper tickets) happens to only have two new ponies.

Cherry Pie is a pink unicorn with yellow mane and a cherry pie symbol. While it is a disappointment to have yet another pink pony, I do like the pink/yellow combination. Also, I'm glad to see we are getting more ponies in the "trotting" pose that aren't part of a more expensive playset. Perhaps some new poses may be on the horizon.

If Cherry Pie seems a little run of the mill I think Diamond Rose more than makes up for it by being just lovely. I'm a sucker for white ponies, but I feel like if there is going to be pink everywhere this is a better, more stunning way to do it. I do wish the cutie mark was a little higher and less generic. Imagine a stained glass style rose!

Fashion Style Cadence & Shining Armor

Fashion Style ponies are a bit bigger than their basic counterparts. Of course this means they are more expensive and come with a bunch of fashion accessories. Some people are really into accessories, but even when I played with my toys as a kid I hated my animals to have any kind of clothing or "human stuff". I guess you could call me a real romantic!

I have a Fashion Style Fluttershy, but that is because Fluttershy is my favorite pony. Recently a Fashion Style Set was released with Cadence and Shining Armor and I thought they looked cool enough that I wanted to purchase them. Of course the first thing I did was strip them of their clothing.

Here is Cadence. I think i might actually like the glitter and tinsel hair better on these larger ponies.

And here is the groom Shining Armor. I actually don't know why they chose to go with the mohawk look, his hair doesn't look like that in the show, and the smaller figure of him has "troll hair". I think the hairstyle is kind of cute though!.

Here is the couple together. I actually do like Shining's eye shape here. It can look a little odd from some angles, but here it makes him look a little determined. You can see how he got to be captain of the royal guard.

And here is the couple in a more traditional wedding pose! Funny how the same "determined" eyes can look kind of lovey-dovey here.

Alicorn Roundup

Winged unicorns, often called "alicorns" in the pony fandom are a special breed in Equestria. They have wings and a horn where a majority of the ponies are either unicorn, pegasus or earth ponies. Thus far all of the alicorns in the show have had a special role to play, be it raising the sun or threatening eternal darkness. In the toy forms the alicorns tend to be taller than the normal pony mold as well.
Princess Celestia is part of a new set that includes the alicorn Princesses Celestia, Luna, and Cadence. They all have glitter horns and wings. This Princess Celestia is still pink, unlike the show Celestia which is white. This one also happens to have a shoddy paint job on her leg. I feel this tends to happen the most with yellow paint. Supposedly it has to do with the pigments in yellow paint.

You may remember this picture from an earlier post about Princess Cadence and Shining Armor. To reiterate The Cadence from the alicorn pack is on the left (sparkly) while the other Cadence is from the wedding castle playset. Since we do not (yet) have a toy for Queen Chrysalis just pretend that second Cadence is the changling Queen.

And who can forget the alicorns of the night? Nightmare Moon (black) and Princess Luna are two sides of the same coin. I really hope Princess Luna will get some more time in season three. I think she is such an interesting character and I would hate to see her "eclipsed" by Cadence in the upcoming season.

Now I have a question for my readers. If a group of seagulls is a flock and a group of dragons is a flight and a group of unicorns is a glory.... what the heck is a group of alicorns?

Blind Bag Ponies

When I was a very little girl I had a set or two of petite my little ponies. These were hard, molded ponies that had a brushable tail. The G4 pony line also has a model of smaller ponies, but these are sold with a twist. Each pony (about 2" tall) comes in a sealed package so it is a surprise which pony you get. Though of course there are secret codes and sets you can buy as well! Here are all of my blind bags. I'm actually only missing one of the first wave, Roseluck #13.

The sparking ponies were the "special" ponies in the first set of blind bags but recently Target has been carrying a set of "crystal" ponies in every color of the rainbow. However, there are some differences between the releases.
Normal sparkle Rainbow Dash is on the left and "crystal set" Rainbow Dash is on the right.

Up to this point the blind bag size ponies have only come in five styles. (Two each of earth and unicorn, but all pegasi share the same mold)

Recently however, there have been several new molded characters. These are typically released three to a package in a sort of theme. The Cloudsdale package includes Gilda the Griffin, a random Wonderbolt pony, and Rainbow Dash. For being as little as they are, the toys are actually pretty high quality.

Unfortunately my wonderbolt pony is missing a bit of paint though. And as you may imagine though, she is just a little top-heavy.

Introducing the Fluttershy/Trixie Hybrid Pony

Hooray, my first factory error/prototype/chinese reject pony is here!

This lovely girl is a mix of Trixie's color palette and Fluttershy's symbol. Interestingly enough the hybrid pony is in a different pose and has a different eye style and color. I think she's a very unique addition to my collection and I adore her! I'm sure that has nothing to do with my love for blue ponies...

I started wondering what I should call her though. I kind of dislike when a name is obviously based on the cutie mark (which in Equestria, ponies don't get until they have an epiphany of self discovery). So I wanted a name that would combine blue and butterflies and came up with Powder. Powder is a type of blue and I also imagine the scales of butterfly wings to be powdery.

Which leads you to wondering what her personality would be like. Fluttershy and Trixie are about as opposite end of the spectrum as you can get. I imagine Powder as a nature lover, and she really loves butterflies and studies them. She's basically the Audubon of butterflies in Equestria.

Let's Blog Blind Bags Ponies Wave 4

Hooray, I scored a box of Wave 4 Blind Bag Figures! Fluttershy is posing pretty with them here. I thought an update of, oh I have glittery ponies might be a little boring so instead I'll open and photograph the blind bags one by one and post them in-between more normal updates.  Maybe by the time I finish with the box, we will have more information about the upcoming season.

Shining Armor & Princess Cadence

When the pony community first got word of Shining Armor reactions were mixed. Many of us were excited to finally have specifically boy pony molds, something that had been missing since the first generation of ponies. Others hated his troll hair, or the fact that Cadance was an alicorn. With some time though, I think the fandom has settled quite a bit. The wedding castle playset has finally been released and I thinkthe fandom has settled, and accepted the two newlyweds much easier than I expected.

I am not a huge fan of the troll hair, but I think in this context it works just fine. I didn't realize the castle would require so much assembly though!

One thing I find really interesting about the pony community is the treatment of Cadance. I don't know if it is inattention, or a what but 99% of the fandom ignores the official spelling of "Cadance" and uses "Cadence". I am completely fine with this and have even done it myself, but I am secretly grateful for it. I know Hasbro just can't use simple names like it did in the 80's and part of that is how copyright works, but it seems like the first real act of solidarity in the pony fandom.

On the topic of Princess Cadece, there are actually two slightly different versions out.
The Cadence on the left comes in a set with a full size Luna and Celestia. They all have tinsel hair and glitter on the wings and horn.
The Cadence on the right comes in the castle playset with her husband Shining Armor.

I just received a notice the other day that most recent batch of ponies I ordered from Hasbro have shipped. I was hoping they would appear today, but it looks like that is unlikely.

TRU Exclusive Favorites Set

The fan favorite's set was announced at the toy fair and collectors have been waiting for it since. I never pre-ordered a copy because I happened to be busy when the preorders page went live and then I forgot about it. Well, it sounds like these sets are showing up in stores before the preorders have been filled and collectors are getting emails of their items being on backorder or just cancelled. I was tipped on twitter that the local Toys R Us claimed to have some of the sets in stock so I rushed home, grabbed the car, and drove to TRU before the other local bronies could buy them all.

I've seen some people complaining about the price of this set (the MSRP is $39.99) but I had a $5 TRU coupon to apply, so I got 7 ponies for $35 which works out to about $5 per pony and is about what they are individually (if not a little less) so I really don't see why people are complaining about it.

Nightmare Moon is the big villain from season one and the community was really surprised and thrilled when they announced the toy. She is the first villain ever sold under the my little pony brand, as far as I recall the first black my little pony as well.

The second most anticipated pony in the set is Trixie, the antagonist of the episode boast Busters. Her personality might need some work, but her toy is lovely. I adore the combination blue/white of her hair.

Vinyl Scratch/DJ Pon3 is a welcome addition to this set, though fans seem to be split about her eyeglasses. I personally would have preferred her to have painted eyes, and accessory glasses, but I am not going to complain about them making a toy more show accurate than anticipated.

I think Lemony Gem steals the show from the other fan favorites with her lovely combination. The light blue hair on all of the ponies in this set has a different texture to it and seems to shine more than normal.

Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash consistently top the charts when we as a fandom are polled about the best/favorite pony. It's no surprise both are included in the favorites set, though since I already have several different Pinkies (this is the only one with a glitter cutie mark) I wish the set had more previously unreleased ponies.

Rainbow Dash also has a glittery symbol and some pretty stunning box hair here.

Flower wishes completes the set, but she also illustrates a problem with a lot of the pony packaging. It's too tight and often leaves dents in the pony!

This is the dent a little closer. The horror, the horror!
