Blind Bag Pony Wedding Set

Another set of the royal couple has arrived from Ohio. These are blind bag sized ponies that come in themed sets. The first I found was the Cloudsdale set, but my mom found the Royal Wedding set which comes with Princess Cadence, Shining Armor, and Twilight Sparkle. The Twilight looks about the same as her other blind bag releases so I did not photograph her.

Princess Cadence looks lovely in this set, though you can tell there is a lot of detail on a small toy, so it isn't the neatest paint job I've ever seen. The mold for Cadence is new, and I hope they reuse it for Princess Luna sometime.

Shining Armor is a handsome groom despite the stray spec of paint on his face. Unlike the Fashion Style and Wedding Castle versions this one has the more show accurate fetlocks and blue hooves.

And here is the happy couple together. I am still shocked by how much I really adore this pair. I really do hope to see more of them in season three.

And just for fun here is a size comparison of the three different releases the wedding couple has had. The smallest are the blind bag sized figures, the middle are slightly larger than "normal" brushable pony size, and the tallest are the fashion style size.

Fashion Style Cadence & Shining Armor

Fashion Style ponies are a bit bigger than their basic counterparts. Of course this means they are more expensive and come with a bunch of fashion accessories. Some people are really into accessories, but even when I played with my toys as a kid I hated my animals to have any kind of clothing or "human stuff". I guess you could call me a real romantic!

I have a Fashion Style Fluttershy, but that is because Fluttershy is my favorite pony. Recently a Fashion Style Set was released with Cadence and Shining Armor and I thought they looked cool enough that I wanted to purchase them. Of course the first thing I did was strip them of their clothing.

Here is Cadence. I think i might actually like the glitter and tinsel hair better on these larger ponies.

And here is the groom Shining Armor. I actually don't know why they chose to go with the mohawk look, his hair doesn't look like that in the show, and the smaller figure of him has "troll hair". I think the hairstyle is kind of cute though!.

Here is the couple together. I actually do like Shining's eye shape here. It can look a little odd from some angles, but here it makes him look a little determined. You can see how he got to be captain of the royal guard.

And here is the couple in a more traditional wedding pose! Funny how the same "determined" eyes can look kind of lovey-dovey here.

Shining Armor & Princess Cadence

When the pony community first got word of Shining Armor reactions were mixed. Many of us were excited to finally have specifically boy pony molds, something that had been missing since the first generation of ponies. Others hated his troll hair, or the fact that Cadance was an alicorn. With some time though, I think the fandom has settled quite a bit. The wedding castle playset has finally been released and I thinkthe fandom has settled, and accepted the two newlyweds much easier than I expected.

I am not a huge fan of the troll hair, but I think in this context it works just fine. I didn't realize the castle would require so much assembly though!

One thing I find really interesting about the pony community is the treatment of Cadance. I don't know if it is inattention, or a what but 99% of the fandom ignores the official spelling of "Cadance" and uses "Cadence". I am completely fine with this and have even done it myself, but I am secretly grateful for it. I know Hasbro just can't use simple names like it did in the 80's and part of that is how copyright works, but it seems like the first real act of solidarity in the pony fandom.

On the topic of Princess Cadece, there are actually two slightly different versions out.
The Cadence on the left comes in a set with a full size Luna and Celestia. They all have tinsel hair and glitter on the wings and horn.
The Cadence on the right comes in the castle playset with her husband Shining Armor.

I just received a notice the other day that most recent batch of ponies I ordered from Hasbro have shipped. I was hoping they would appear today, but it looks like that is unlikely.
