This post requires a little bit of background information. 1. I grew up on the shores of lake Erie. 2. My sense of geography leaves much to be desired.
My elementary school playground was actually just a guardrail and a cliff away from the lake. At that school there was a project the 5th graders worked on and displayed for the school each year. When asked the students all replied that they got their arts & crafts supplies from Pat Catan's. Well, to my untrained ear the words got smooshed together and I thought that there was another country in the middle of Lake Erie called "Pakitan". Eventually I figured out that Pat Catan's was actually just a rather large arts and crafts store a city away.
I miss Pat Catan's...
Okay, Berkeley has a Dick Blick and there is also a Michael's nearby, but I feel like neither have quite the selection of different art and craft supplies as my home store. Dick Blick seems to be geared more for a professional artist. A tube of paint there is $8 or so, and while I'm sure they are high quality acrylics half of the fun of customizing ponies is that there are so many fun and interesting color combinations.
Michael's carries the cheaper folk art brand paints that many customizers use, but I feel the prices there are not competitive. I bought a few colors to paint my G1>G4 Seashell pony, but I knew the prices were higher than they should be. The same brand in Ohio costs $1/tube for regular paints and $1.49 for metallics. Needless to say I stocked up on some art supplies when I was home visiting my parents.
Now to just start planning the ponies....

Collection Update
Ben found Cheerilee and Lily Blossom at a Target the other day, whereas I nabbed the last G4 calendar from my local Dollar Tree.
I also got some old ponies from my co-worker. Her family is moving to the UK and her daughter didn't wish to keep her G3 ponies. I got a handful of G3's but none are too terribly interesting. (I'm grateful for free ponies though, now I can do a G3 custom swap if I want!)
What was surprising though are the G4 McDonald toys! I didn't really pursue them and then regretted it a bit, considering a set on ebay is more than I would like to pay. Imagine my surprise to get these unicorns. Twilight has her base but Rarity does not.

Twilight and Target
A new Target has opened relatively close to home and I figured it was worth heading over to turn in my pony credit on the off chance that they might have new ponies.
The parking lot was a nightmare! No kidding it was the scariest parking lot I have ever seen. There were cars everywhere and not enough spots and I thought for sure someone was going to hit us. When we finally got in the store and found the ponies the area was smaller than I had been hoping and there were still a lot of G3.5s (ugh scary!) so the pickings were slim. The two Twilights' heads that were there were very mismatched so we decided to walk to Toys R Us and check there too. The aisles at TRU were even worse! They didn't even have holders for the ponies to hang on... But they did have an Eastershy and a slightly better Twilight. We escaped the parking lot of doom with Twilight in tow and really, I don't think I plan on going back there ever again.
Pictures later :)
